■展覧会概要
子どものとき誰もが手にしたクレパス®には、その後は再び手にすることなく、子どものお絵かき用というイメージが記憶に刻まれていることでしょう。けれども、クレパス®は子ども用だけでなく、プロの画家用の描画材料でもあるのです。クレパス®がプロの画家たちの手にかかると、描画材料の特性を十全にいかした技法が編み出され、自身の表現に結びついた優れた作品が生み出されます。
本展は、第一線で活躍中の洋画家、日本画家、彫刻家、版画家、陶芸家など24作家が、プロの作家となったいま、再びクレパスに挑戦していただきました。普段から得意とするテーマや手法を駆使し、独自の作風を彷彿とさせる作品や、いつもの使い慣れた描画材料をクレパス®に替えたことで、思いがけず新しい側面を見せている作品もあります。こうした多彩な魅力にあふれるクレパス画®には、作家たちの新しい展開を予感させてくれると同時に、描画材料クレパス®の新しい絵画表現の可能性が見いだされます。

■ Exhibition Overview
Cray-Pas®, familiar to nearly everyone from childhood, is often remembered simply as a drawing material for children. However, Cray-Pas® is not only for children — it is also a professional artistic medium used by accomplished artists. When placed in the hands of professional creators, techniques emerge that fully utilize the material’s unique qualities, producing remarkable works closely connected to each artist’s own expression.
For this exhibition, 24 contemporary artists working at the forefront of their fields — including Western-style painters, Japanese-style painters, sculptors, printmakers, and ceramic artists — have once again taken on the challenge of using Cray-Pas®. Some works evoke each artist’s distinctive style through familiar themes and methods, while others reveal unexpected new dimensions by replacing their usual materials with Cray-Pas®.
These richly varied Cray-Pas® works not only suggest new developments in the artists’ practices, but also reveal fresh possibilities for artistic expression through the medium itself.
